2021 Honda Talon 1000×4 Engine
Sports side-by-side requires strength, and you are sure to find the new Talon 1000X-4 offers a lot. This fluid inline Twin on the 999cc in Talon delivers the kind of strong torque and fast-revving horsepower you would expect from a superior Sport model, but also responsive in lower revs and in the critical midrange. The longitudinal Set in the chassis and managed by the Honda’s sophisticated PGM-FI mapping system engine, it delivers the kind of improvements no other side-by-side can match.
The fluid inline Twin from The Talon 999cc uses the same UNICAM® cylinder head design found in our championship-winning Motocrosser CRF450R. It helps make the machine more compact, which allows us to position for optimal weight distribution and ground clearance.
The Roller-TIP rocker arm in the Talon train valve helps reduce engine friction, facilitating higher revs, faster, and contributing to more efficient engine operation and power. Those other examples of Honda narrowing you may not see, but that you will feel with every trip.
Giving the Talon machine a camshaft with high lifting and long duration helps to change the engine. Better breathe helps Talon make more power, and keep the power that comes all the way to the Redline.
Complementing the Talon’s potent camshaft specifications, our engineers also deliver a 46mm bore twin-engine for more airflow and better breathing. You will feel it the first time you floor the throttle, and you will hear it too, with a throaty intake of Talon roar.
Here is a math lesson that is anything but boring: More air plus fuel is more equal to more power. With Hot cam, throttle body, and High-Flow Fuel Injector, Talon machine is the total package for total off-road performance.
The crankshaft seems like a simple part, but here that so many machine characters are determined. By offset the cylinder of two crankpins by 270 degrees, the Talon machine delivers wide powerband and torque abundantly. Counterbalancer keeps everything running smoothly.
The final part of the Talon balanced power equation: better breathing and more fuel delivery require the equally tuned exhaust system. Talon delivers. Not only does it give some beautiful mechanical music, but it helps the engine delivers seamlessly, even the power of a partial throttle to open wide running.
Crawling rocks, deserts, dunes, and high altitude operations can all challenge your side-by-side cooling system. That’s why we give all of our Talons a high capacity system. Tested under some of the hardest conditions we could find, you can be sure your machine will stay calm, and be gathered when it goes hard.
Another invisible example of Honda that won the technical race. Spraying oil down from the piston Talon helps them run cold and seal better. The combination allows the piston to lead an easier life and help the machine make more power. The design also allows us to use lighter pistons, for a faster revving machine.
By constructing the Talon machine with Bore 10mm cylinder in front of the crankshaft, we change the thrust force on the Pistons ‘ skirts and face. That helps the ring seal better. This is all part of the Honda-number story just telling a small fraction; Design details like this make your Talon 1000X-4 Best in class.
Another example of Honda’s attention to detail and unparalleled engineering. This unique system positively locks the steel cylinder Liner and aluminum cylinder blocks together. The result is more contact surface area, and it means better cooling machine and heat transfer for superior engine performance.
Evident in the Honda racing engine, keeping the engine oil away from the crankshaft helps eliminate the windage losses. Semi-Dry-Sump design also helps ensure more positively oiling under extreme driving conditions a Talon driver can experience. Better Engine lubrication and longer engine life are the results.
To get the most out of your machine, you need the best air going into it. That’s why we position high air filters on the machine at the back, and intake of air to the side. This helps ensure clean air supply, even in deeper fording depths.
Some of the most impressive features of Talon are the ones you’ll never see. In addition to the suspension and ground clearance, our rubber-Mount engine and exhaust system to isolate the cab against excessive vibration. We also gave them four engine mounts to add strength under the high-performance driving operation.
Since the Honda All-Gear automatic transmission DCT is very efficient, it has more horsepower rear wheels than some competitors in the class.
2021 Honda Talon 1000×4 Chassis
The Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve features FOX Live Valve suspension with a 2.5-inch shock on all four wheels. The system adjusts the attenuation on each shock independently, automatically, and up to 16 times per second for superior driving quality and less Pitch and rollover all terrain.
CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION
The Talons feature special, long-wheelbase, and high-performance chassis that form the base for superior handling and stability. From there we add long-independent travel front and rear suspension and cheap ground clearance. The Talon 1000X-4 got a premium, FOX podium 2.0 shock in front, and 2.5 shocks out back (with a quick QS3 adjust at the Four Corners), while the Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve featured our new FOX Live Valve suspension with 2.5 front and rear shocks.
At Talons, the Honda 3-link trailing-ARM rear suspension is one of the secrets of their superior handling. Both feature 15 inches of travel rear wheels for seamless travel and superior control.
Only available on the Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve, this shock combines FOX automatically-adjusting Live Valve technology. Shocks continue to alter their compression damping (each shock independently, in real-time). You get a little roll in the corners, smooth ride through obstacles, and more resistant to bottoming-Deluxe travel overall.
The Talon 1000X-4 FOX features a podium 2.0 shock in front and 2.5 shocks in the back, all with a fast adjust QS3. The organizer is intuitive, with three different settings that make it easy to tune your suspension to your terrain or driving style.
High-performance side-by-side needs high-performance brakes. The power of Talon, chassis, and suspension travel helps take side-by-side to the next level. Their front and rear discs feature 250mm, with 34mm twin-piston caliper in front and a 34mm Single-piston caliber in the rear.
The electronic Brakeforce distribution (EBD) optimizes front and rear braking power under a dynamic chassis condition in a two-wheel drive.
The dual A-ARM suspension gives you 14.6 inches (14.4 inches-FOX Live Valve) travel on the front. The couple are with a land star permit and you start to understand two reasons why Talons handles well and is very comfortable in rough terrain.
The complete testing showed that for serious sports driving, the weight of the back weighs a little the best. That’s why we set Talons with 44 percent of their weight up front, and 56 percent above the back. Uphill, downhill, over whoops and in G-Out, the Talon 1000X-4 model only flat-Out works.
The Talon spring suspension offers a gentle early ride but withholds bottoming for both comfortable travel and control – the best of both worlds.
OFF-Road Driving is a tough chase, and Mother Nature can be hard. No need to worry we have your Talons covered. Literally. Generous skid protection, undercarriage protectors, and vulnerable suspension components. Want even more? See our range of accessories.
Here is something you can see and experience for yourself. The Talon standard Bumper front offers a level of vehicle protection of multiple side-by-side flaws. But this intelligent design does not sacrifice performance, because it is designed to glide seamlessly through obstacles in harsh approach conditions, increase off-Road clearance, and maneuver while still offering good protection.
Built on the Talon design chassis, this attaching point makes it easy to secure your Talon for transport, and also makes it easy to hook up a recovery strap when your friend with several other brands is side-by-side stuck. Make him buy lunch as Payback.

SIX-SPEED DCT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Automatic comfort with power, control, and manual efficiency, the Honda DCT lets you drive as you wish. Choose between manual or fully automatic mode. Plus, the addition of Sport mode enhances the fun, shifting at higher rpm to the vibrant, full-performance driving experience.
DCT puts you in control of what the engine speed you want, and what the gear ratio is. Or you can let it do all the thought for you. Additionally, you also get genuine compression braking and more efficient power delivery than belt-driven CVT.
The Talons Featured our second-generation exclusive I-4WD system, specifically tuned to respond faster and capable of delivering even more drive power. The industry’s first industrial brake-traction control system for side-by-side simplifies operation, enhances Drivability, and optimizes traction.
Using the proven, advanced technology of the Honda Automotive division, you get the benefits associated with the front differential locked with no losses. That means maintaining front-wheel traction even if one wheel wants to spin on ice or mud or if it’s in a hole. But at the same time, you get the lighter steering, better tracking at high speeds, a tighter rotating radius, and a reduced Kickback associated with an unlocked front differential. Special Software Song I-4WD system for sports use.
Nobody wants to get beat off the line, and with Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve You will be the one who does laugh. This is the only side-by-side with both automatic transmission and launch mode. And easy to use: Just hold the brakes, press the Launch mode button, hold both paddle shifter back, Floor The Accelerator, and remove The paddle. Hold tight, because you will feel the serious acceleration. DCT automatically shifts upwards, so you keep going through all the gears. The launch model even has a special YAW control, so you start it straight and right.
When it comes to strength and toughness, the Talons lead the way. CV-sized joints 87mm, fat 39.7 mm prop shafts, and strong U-joints are all constructed to survive the load that a low-speed rock crawl can produce – and that causes driveline failure in so many side-by-side.
The Paddle shifter mounted in the steering column adds a serious performance dose on each drive. In manual mode, they let you shift without ever taking your hands from the steering wheel, and an automatic mode, they let you replace the current tooth quickly or Downshift, holding that tooth for a few seconds before returning to Automatic mode.
With a 42 percent reduction in gear between high and low, you get the torque you need in all six teeth. It will definitely come in handy when driving over tough terrain, climbing a hill, or crawling rocks.
HILL START HELPING
Need to stop on the hill? Honda Hill starts to help automatically hold your Talons in position as you move your feet from the brake pedal to the accelerator-no Roll-Back drama. Even work in downhills too!
2WD/4WD/SHIFT ON THE FLY
Want to access as many tractions as possible? Put it in the I-4WD. Need maximum power on the four wheels? I-4WD eliminates the need for traditional locking differences. Want to use 2WD for a lightweight steering or specific area? The Talons let you do it all, and the best part is, you can do it all by pressing a button.
BOOT PROTECTION JOINT CV
RIP your CV boot, and it’s just a matter of time until you’ll make an expensive substitute. That’s why we gave the Talon 1000X-4 and Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve Dual protection CV: First, we designed them to slip tightly covered by the suspension sleeve. Secondly, CV joints themselves get special guards to offer even more protection.
ADVANCED TRANSMISSION LOGIC
The brain DCT, Advanced Transmission Logic, detects how you drive and adapt. A relaxed driver gets an early shift for a quieter trip with a lower Engine speed. Sportier drivers will continue each gear longer for higher RPM shifts. And when it will decline, you get the correct engine braking. Well, that’s a smart transmission.
SPIRAL RING AND PINION REAR FINAL DRIVE
The spiral-cut Gear in your Talon final drive means that the load is split over multiple gears, not just one, and that means they are quieter and result in less vibration as well.
PROP SHAFT BEARING CENTER
Since Talons has a long wheelbase from our two-seat model, it follows that they have a longer prop shaft as well. To make it strong and smooth, we fit in with a special center bearing.
PROP SHAFT DAMPER
Here is another example of Honda’s attention to detail: The Talon’s Propshaft got a special, cam-type damper. This reduces vibration, helps the driveline part last longer, and gives you a smoother ride.
CONNECTED DRIVE FEELING
Compared to the CVT transmission, The Talon’s positive automatic DCT gearbox gives you a much more connected feel with a side-by-side. Combine it with their responsive engine, and you’ll see why Talon 1000X-4 gives you superior control.
LOW EXPANSION BRAKE HOSE
By installing Talon with a low expansion brake hose, you get a better sensation of pedals and robust braking performance.
Standard equipment on all Talon models, our Electric Power steering system helps remove the steer bumps through rocky and rutted terrain, which reduces fatigue. What makes it even better is adding help you get when you need it, such as when you are on a 4WD, driving at a slower speed, or maneuvering over harsh conditions. Plus, these systems are specifically tuned to give you the right amount of feedback for a sports-driving.
2021 Honda Talon 1000×4 Model
2021 Honda Talon 1000×4 Design
The Talons features a stadium seat for rear passengers: compared to their seat front seats are set almost three inches higher and two inches closer to each other, which gives the passengers a much better field of view. They not only saw a pair of helmets in front of them – they could enjoy the trip like everyone else. Forget about the first class and coach-everyone rides one class here.
The protection structure of Talon’s occupants uses large-diameter tubes and meets ROHVA’s rollover protection standards. The standard door-hardware and mesh side of the clip quickly helps keep debris from entering the cab. A three-point, auto-style seat belt is equipped with an emergency locking retractor mechanism, to help optimize passenger safety.
Why paint and not color-Molded plastic? Since the painted body parts of Talon resist scratching better, and we know that where you will be driving side-by-Side, you won’t want to slow down for a small brush on the side of the road. Plus, they just look better – the first time you see a new Talon in person, we’re sure you’ll agree.
ADJUSTABLE DRIVER SEAT
Honda has a ton of data and experience in the Chair, thanks to our Auto division. And while almost every sports side-by-side has an adjustable driver seat, only Talon gets this right. Designed to suit a wide range of operators, it also locks positively in a no-shake position, helping make you feel more connected to the vehicle.
With the Tilt Steering Wheel, you will ensure a more comfortable experience, especially under high-performance driving conditions. The Tilt-wheel function also makes it easier to get in and out.
HANDLE “T ” FOR FRONT PASSENGER
Your front passenger needs a solid way to hold, but take the Honda Talons to get this feature right. The “T ” Handle in front is fast adjustable but equally important to adjust solidly and free toys.
REAR PASSENGER HANDLE ROD
Passengers behind you get a comfortable, full wide grab Bar to hang onto. It’s simple, intuitive, and finger-friendly.
The multi-function LCD dashboard display is large enough to hold a lot of information, such as speed, fuel level, engine speed, transmission mode, fuel gauge, coolant temperature, travel information, and much more. It even includes hours, so you’ll always know when it’s time to have fun.
Talon wide front and rear doors (standard equipment) make the entrance and exit easier for the front and rear occupants. In addition, the door uses an automotive-style Double-latch design that gives the impression of a safe and free-vibrate.
Typical Honda’s attention to detail, a full-scope Talon roof that is specially designed to divert rainwater from the occupants. And unlike some others, it is also designed to be an aerodynamics cooperative when transporting vehicles, whether you are killing forward or backward. Standard equipment.
PAINTED FRAME AND ROPS
The Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve features special color-matched frame painted and roll-over structure protection that sets it apart visually and helps make this a new side-by-side stand wherever you go.
TWIN-FRONT PASSENGER FOOTREST
Some side-by-side treats their occupants as they fly in economy class. Not Talon. You’ve got acres of legroom here, even for six legs – plus passengers wearing big boots. The special two-level front passenger footrest allows you a sturdy self-brace on rough terrain, and stretch when just sailing together. Designed to accommodate a wide range of passengers in comfort.
REAR PASSENGER LEGROOM
The rear seat Talon is designed for full-sized humans. The rear cab has plenty of leg and elbow chambers, and a generous headroom to wear a helmet as well.
The Talon chair has been designed to be the most comfortable in the industry. They have a wide seatback and an even wider bottom seat. They do not vibrate. They do not hold water. They offer a lot of lateral support. And the driver side is positively adjusted to suit a wide range of operator heights. They are even compatible with four-point harness for used competitions. Your connection to the side-by-side starts here, and even before you start moving, you’ll know Talon is the right journey for you.
INTEGRATED INNER DOOR HANDLE
Another “small ” detail, but your one and especially your passengers will come to appreciate. All four doors feature an integrated inner door handle, another example of a premium that Talons wears comfort and convenience. You will use it dozens of times every weekend, and wonder why all side-by-Sides are not built this way.
BIG CARGO BED
Lunch? We are on it. Talon’s cargo bed sits high, away from danger, and where it is easily accessible. Big enough to easily hold a large 45-Quart cooler with the space to spare, it has a 299-pound capacity (which is a lot of burgers) and has a strong six Tie-down points.
A small detail? Not when you have struggled with some other design or aftermarket add-ons out there. At Talons, our door nets are standard equipment on all four doors. They hook and unlatch quickly and easily. Performance is calculated, and we’ve made it easier to protect ourselves and passengers from elements.
SOCKET CHARGING ACCESSORY
Need to charge your phone or Navi system while you’re on the go? No problem: We deliver two dedicated Talons 12-volt charging ports, one located front and the other for rear-seat passengers.
A GENEROUS AND SAFE TROPHY HOLDER
Hey, we’re here to have a good time, and who wants to be thirsty? And that means taking something to drink with you. The Talons features four cupholders (two in front, two in the back), and each one safely holds a 30-ounce off-Road standard, as well as many other travel cups.
On the other-by-Side, things like mountain flags are meditations. Not on Talon. No detail escapes the full attention of our designers. Mount Talon flags are fully integrated into the design, and easy to use.
BUILT-IN THE UNITED STATES
The Talons are a purpose-built for the American market, right in America. Domestic and global sourced parts are all assembled in our factory in Timmonsville, South Carolina, and after side-by-side roll of the line, they are ready to explore every corner of the country.
